The goal of INCT is to qualify and bring together high-level human resources from different areas to promote advances at the frontier of knowledge in nanotechnology for Sustainable Agriculture. From an economic perspective, agriculture accounts for about 27% of Brazil’s GDP and for 1/3 of Brazilian exports.
The Nanomaterials can enhance agribusiness, as well as other industrial sectors. INCT aims to be a hub in the knowledge economy, where the science and technology produced in research units will meet market demands, thus solving bottlenecks in the productive sector.
To achieve this, it is necessary to develop and characterize new nanomaterials and devices for agricultural applications and proactively understand their potential impacts on human, animal, and environmental health, aiming at the adoption of safety protocols and sustainable innovation.
Therefore, the creation of this INCT is relevant and strategic to stimulate and favor greater integration at the intersection between nanotechnology and agriculture.
As such, the INCT will promote advances at the frontier of knowledge in Nanotechnology for Responsible and Sustainable Agriculture. Topics of interest will be the advances in fundamental themes from nanotechnology and its applications up to complex
relationships involving bioeconomy, health, ecosystems, safety, society, regulation, LCA, and knowledge management.
The technologies developed will primarily explore components of Brazilian biodiversity and ecological interactions to develop integrated systems for pest and disease control, nutrition, and plant growth stimulation, in order to increase agricultural productivity without disregarding environmental and human health safety, creating a leading role for the country on the world stage.
