Abstract: This invention presents an eco-friendly method for fractionating kraft lignin (KL) using acetic acid as a green solvent, yielding well-defined lignin fractions suitable for nanoparticle formation. The process enables control over particle size and surface chemistry, facilitating their use in agriculture, healthcare, and advanced materials. The valorization of lignin—a major by-product of the pulp and paper industry—supports circular-economy principles and provides a sustainable alternative to petroleum-derived materials.
