Abstract: This process converts organic-rich sludge and wastewater from domestic, industrial, or agricultural sources into luminescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) via microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis. The CQDs (~9.7 nm) exhibit blue fluorescence (λ_em = 450 nm, quantum yield ≈ 2.5%) and high aqueous dispersibility. The method avoids harsh reagents and exemplifies circular-economy principles by transforming waste into value-added nanomaterials applicable in bioimaging, sensing, and environmental monitoring.
